By Espinosa Bellido Abogados
Peruvian coffee stole the spotlight, elevating Peru's reputation to new heights at the prestigious global coffee event: the 2024 Specialty Coffee Expo held in Chicago, United States, spanning April 12th to 14th.
Twenty Peruvian exhibitors from coffee-growing regions like Amazonas, Cajamarca, Cusco, Junin, and San Martin showcased their finest brews to various international buyers at this significant gathering.
Peruvian coffee is renowned for its top-notch quality. Presently, this delightful bean hails from 14 different regions across Peru, with leading producers including San Martin, Junin, Cajamarca, and Amazonas, closely followed by Huanuco, Pasco, Cusco, Ayacucho, Piura, and Puno. Over 223,000 families are engaged in its cultivation across the country.
The Peruvian Andes are an excellent setting to cultivate high altitude coffee: Peruvian coffee grows at altitudes of between 1,970 and 5,905 feet above sea level, although 75% of the coffee plantations are located higher than 3,280 feet above sea level. As for specialty coffees, they are usually grown at altitudes higher than 4,265 feet above sea level. Moreover, the numerous microclimates that can be found in Peru make it one of the most biodiverse countries in the world.
Currently, local producers and companies can enroll in a State supported program to promote their products by requesting the license of the brand Coffees from Peru.
