Peru Expands Agricultural Exports with 21 New Market Access Points in 2024

In 2024, Peru made significant strides in expanding its agricultural export opportunities by securing 21 new access points for its products in South America, Asia, and Oceania. This milestone was announced by the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI).

"Given Peru's strong agro-export potential, diversifying the markets for our products is crucial, as it creates more opportunities for local producers," said Angel Manero, head of MIDAGRI.

Between January and October 2024, Peru’s agro-exports reached USD 9.68 billion, reflecting a 22.5% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. By the end of 2024, food exports are expected to total USD 12 billion.

Peru has rapidly established itself as a global leader in agricultural exports. Over recent years, it has become the top exporter of blueberries worldwide, ranks second in avocado exports, and has led the grape export market for the past two years. The country’s agricultural exports continue to experience steady growth year after year.

The following agricultural products gained access to South American markets in 2024:

-Grapes to Ecuador
-Subtle lemon, Tahiti lemon, Eureka lemon, orange, grapefruit, and fresh hydrangea flowers to Brazil
-Blueberry and avocado plants to Colombia
-Blueberry plants to Chile

In Asia, Peru secured access for the following products in 2024:

-Grapes, pecans, nuts, and frozen fruits (avocado, mango, blueberries) to China
-Avocado to Malaysia
-Mandarins to Vietnam

Furthermore, China officially recognized Peru as free from foot-and-mouth disease, paving the way for the export of beef and pork.

In Oceania, Peru gained market access for the following products in New Zealand:

-Oranges, mandarins, grapefruit, subtle lemon, and Tahiti lemon.

With these new market openings, Peru strengthens its position as a global leader in agro-exports, continuing to diversify its offerings and expand its reach in international markets.
