A peaceful oasis

National Geographic Traveler lists Uruguay as one of the top 20 destinations in the world to visit in 2016. It describes our country as an “oasis of stability,” dwarfed by its giant neighbors Brazil and Argentina, and recommends spots such as the high-end beach resort Punta del Este and the wetlands stretching across the Atlantic coast up to the border with Brazil, Colonia del Sacramento, declared a World Heritage site because of its fusion of Portuguese and Spanish colonial architecture, and Montevideo, the “calmest capital city of Latin America,” in addition to highlighting Uruguay’s great quality of life.
The publication suggests visiting Uruguay in October and November (mid to late spring) and in March and April (early to mid autumn) to avoid tourist crowds and the typically high temperatures of the summer (December through February), which is the season that draws the most travelers.
