A positive 2017 for Peru in IP enforcement
Peru took a number of positive steps relating to IP protection and enforcement in 2017, according to the Office of the United States Trade Representatives (USTR), which highlights that last year Peru improved interagency coordination with respect to IP enforcement and established new specialized IP prosecutors in both the Ventanilla and Tumbes regions.

The USTR also states that in 2017 Peru successfully seized and shuttered several Spanish-language websites known to host large volumes of pirated content, but nevertheless remains on the USTR’s Watch List (a level below from those countries with serious IP  deficiencies) as right holders continue to report that the country is the base of administrators of such Spanish-language websites that offer or facilitate the use or sale of pirated content and counterfeit goods. Therefore, the United States urges Peru to devote additional resources for IP enforcement, enhance its border controls, and build the technical IP-related capacity of its law enforcement officials, prosecutors, and judges.

The findings are part of the Special 301 Report, which analyzes the protection of U.S. intellectual property rights across the globe.
