The first activity, scheduled for November, is "Copyright and access to culture". According to Pablo Álvarez, general director of the MEC, its “intelligent” for Uruguay to intensify investigations and debate over the topic, especially from an Internet point of view. "It´s new and its somehow sliding through our hands, so we need to tackle it from a national strategy”, he said.
Carlos Liscano, president of the Uruguayan Copyright Council, affirmed that although the country is “belated” on some copyright matters, it´s also well positioned on the region: “There is no piracy. National and foreign artists and authors receive their royalties. This doesn´t happen in all South American countries, so we aren´t the worsts”.
A management team is the responsible for planning and organizing the activity and its final document, that will be send to the Parliament for its discussion and the possible future entrench of laws and resolutions.
