Amendments to the Nicaraguan Law on Trademarks and Other Distinctive Signs

The Central American University-Managua, through its Department of Legal Sciences, organized the first Nicaraguan International Congress on Intellectual Property, Law and Innovation.The Congress, which takes place from April 25 to 28, 2022, has been designed to foster a dialogue between national and international intellectual property experts, including academics, lawyers, business people and students, with the aim of furthering the study and understanding of intellectual property and promoting it as a path to development through innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship.
“Respect for intellectual property in Nicaragua and in the Central American region is a primary step so that it can fulfill its function as the driving force of innovation and creation, providing benefits for both its owners and its users”, the Central American University-Managua stated in its invitation.
Several national and international specialists highlighted the academic sessions discussing about legislations and the most recent regional developments on trademarks, patents, utility models, copyrights and industrial designs.
Among the speakers were Julián Bendaña-Aragón and Ana Jeanssy Fornos, from Guy José Bendaña-Guerrero & Asociados, who talked about the amendments to the Nicaraguan Law on Trademarks and Other Distinctive Signs. Mr. Bendaña and Mrs. Fornos are experts in trademark law and are widely recognized in Nicaragua and Central America for their work with national and foreign clients, providing advice on trademark and patent matters.
