The Andean Community (CAN) extended until December 31, 2024, the deadline for its four member countries -Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru- to implement the single administrative document among their Customs.
The single administrative document is a single document that reduces the administrative burden and increases the standardisation and harmonisation of data collected on trade. The CAN is looking to implement it since 2007.
In 2022 Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru eaffirmed the need to promote trade through the facilitation, simplification and digitization of all types of Customs procedures. “We have to move towards an Andean Community that contributes to reactivate economic growth with tools oriented to world trends such as electronic commerce and digital transformation,” the countries said in an official statement.
In 2021, the Andean Community signed an agreement with the Development Bank of Latin America for the implementation of Andean Community Interoperability - INTERCOM, a digital infrastructure that will allow for the instant exchange of information between the Customs authorities of the four Andean states and boost intra-regional trade.
Taking advantage of this potential offered by digitization will lead to reduced transaction costs and timeframes for foreign trade in the bloc, and will be particularly beneficial for SMEs. This agreement furthers the Andean digital agenda and will increase the regional bloc’s competitiveness internally and also worldwide.
