Applications filed for the Pupusa of Olocuilta and the Red Mombin of San Lorenzo

The pupusa is a traditional Salvadoran dish of a thick corn tortilla stuffed with a savory filling. It is mostly created in Olocuilta, a municipality in the La Paz department, south of El Salvador. The Red Mombin (Jocote Barón Rojo in Spanish) is a small tropical berry native to tropical regions of the Americas. The municipality of San Lorenzo in Ahuachapán department, west of El Salvador, has one of the largest productions of the fruit, that has allowed the tourist and economic development of the town.
Luz Estrella Rodríguez, Deputy Minister of Economy, highlighted the efforts made with producers from Olocuilta and San Lorenzo for the promotion and dissemination of these "representative products of El Salvador linked to Intellectual Property." Rodriguez announced that, as a result of the activities that have been carried out within the framework of the National Intellectual Property Policy, the Ministry of Economy soon expects to file other applications for local products such as the Cacao from El Salvador, the Loroco from San Lorenzo and the Shrimp from Jiquilisco.
