Argentina Advances AI Integration in Industrial Property
By Estudio Chaloupka

In April 2025, the Circle of Legislators of the Argentine Nation and its Strategic Institute for International Relations organized a working breakfast to discuss the role of AI as an ally in the management and protection of industrial property. The meeting brought together legislators, government officials, academics, and technology experts to analyze how AI can enhance the processes of patent registration, trademark protection, and innovation tracking within Argentina's National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI).
During the session, participants emphasized that AI tools could significantly streamline administrative procedures, improve data accuracy, and enhance decision-making regarding intellectual property rights. The discussions also highlighted the importance of implementing AI systems that are transparent, fair, and aligned with international standards.
Beyond industrial property, Argentina has been developing a comprehensive approach to AI. The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation launched a "National AI Plan" aimed at promoting research, responsible development, and application of AI across different sectors. The plan includes initiatives to build technical capacity, promote ethical AI practices, and encourage collaboration between academia, the private sector, and government agencies.
Argentina is also a signatory to the UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, committing to ensuring that AI technologies are developed and used in ways that promote human rights, sustainability, and inclusion.
At the legislative level, there have been ongoing discussions about regulating AI applications to ensure that their deployment does not deepen inequalities or infringe on fundamental rights. Although a specific AI law has not yet been passed, working groups within Congress are actively debating possible frameworks.
