La Guilde Internationale des Fromagers, a Swiss non-profit organization founded in 1901, welcomed Argentina as it most recent member. "Just as it happened with the Argentinean wine industry, I hope that in the coming decades this country can be globally recognized for the quality and identity of the different varieties of cheeses that it develops”, said master cheese-maker Roland Barthélemy, Provost of La Guilde Internationale des Fromagers, during an April visit to Buenos Aires were the Argentina’s membership was officially formalized.
Present in nearly 40 countries, The Guild is formed by professional cheesemakers, dairy growers, processors, refiners, traders and retailers. “Hopefully this allows Argentina to promote the conservation of its particular styles and techniques for cheese production, in order to protect the identity and typicality of their national cheese”, said Barthélemy.
