Argentina´s Cannabis Law
By Estudio Chaloupka

Argentina's new cannabis law, which came into force on August 7, 2023, could create up to 10,000 new jobs in the country by 2025, according to estimates. It could also generate billions of dollars in revenue for the government through taxes and licensing fees.
The law is expected to attract investment from both domestic and international companies in the cannabis industry. Argentina has a number of advantages for investors, including a skilled workforce, a favorable climate for agriculture, and a growing demand for cannabis products.
Some of the key provisions of the law are:
-Intellectual property: It includes provisions to protect intellectual property in the cannabis industry. This is important to ensure that companies can develop and market new products without fear of infringement
-Cultivation: It allows for the cultivation of cannabis for both medicinal and industrial purposes. Individuals and collectives can cultivate up to 6 plants per household for personal use. Commercial cultivation is allowed for licensed entities.
-Processing and manufacturing: Licensed entities can process and manufacture cannabis products for medicinal and industrial use. This includes products such as oils, extracts, and cosmetics.
-Distribution and sale: The sale of cannabis products is allowed for licensed entities. Products can be sold in pharmacies, specialty stores, and online.
-Import and export: It allows for the import and export of cannabis products for medicinal and industrial purposes.
-Research: It encourages research into the medical and industrial uses of cannabis. Licensed entities can conduct research on cannabis plants, products, and extracts.
-Regulation: It establishes a regulatory body, the National Cannabis Institute, to oversee the cannabis industry. The institute will be responsible for issuing licenses, monitoring compliance, and enforcing the law.
