Authorities protect Peruvian biopiracy abroad
The National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi), has defended abroad various cases of biopiracy in order to avoid the granting of patents that are based on Peruvian biological products.

So far this year, seven oppositions have been presented against applications filed in the Intellectual Property offices of the Philippines, the People's Republic of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The oppositions are filed by Indecopi (who acts as president of the National Commission against Biopiracy) and carried out through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru. To date, 30 cases of biopiracy related to Peruvian biological resources have been detected abroad, of which 18 have been resolved favorably.
