Authorities seize 11,500 counterfeited products of the Peruvian national team
The Peruvian IP Office (Indecopi) seized 11.500 counterfeited products that imitated the home and away kits of Peru’s national soccer team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup at Russia. The operation was carried out in Gamarra, Lima, one of the largest clothing and textile informal markets of Latin America, by Indecopi’s specialized office for crimes against customs and intellectual property.

The products, located at 25 shops, had a total value of USD 200 thousand: Peru’s home jerseys were sold at Gamarra with prices between USD 12 and USD 18, when the formal market value of the original jersey is USD 82.

All traders involved in the activity were arrested for alleged trademark and copyright infringement, and “illegal appropriation of the Umbro brand”, the English sportswear and football equipment company which supplies the Peruvian Football Federation.
