Authorized Economic Operator
Newspaper La Prensa Gráfica informed that at the end of the year, the Director General of Customs (DGA) of El Salvador will launch the pilot of its Authorized Economic Operator (OEA) program.

The World Customs Organisation (WCO) Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Trade (SAFE) defines an AEO as a party involved in international movement of goods that has been approved by a national Customs administration complying with WCO standards.

After an auditing process, economic operators receive a certification to obtain different kind of benefits in their international trade operations. AEO programs include manufacturers, importers, exporters, brokers, carriers, consolidators, intermediaries, ports, airports, terminal operators, integrated operators, warehouses and distributors.

Argentina, Colombia, Mexico and Peru are some of the current Latin American countries with AEO programs in operation. A total of 52 countries enforce it worldwide.
