Bars and restaurants liable for TV copyrights
Restaurants, bars, hair salons, clinics and all businesses with TVs for their customers will soon need to obtain copyright licenses for the transmission of those contents, whether they are fiction or documentaries.

"We are not stomping anyone. This is a rights issue", said Helena Nosei, general director in Uruguay of the Entity for the Management of Audiovisual Producers Rights (Egeda), an international organization (present in Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Spain, United States and Uruguay) which manages the copyright of audiovisual producers.

Uruguayan Law 17.616, which regulates copyright, stipulates that holders can claim compensation for the exhibition of their works, although the standard does not apply to nonprofit or educational enterprises. "We will control only companies and organizations with economic purposes", stated Nosei.
