BKM supports Financial Times special report on Paraguay
On June 11, 2019, international daily newspaper Financial Times published an eleven page special report about investing in Paraguay. “In recent years, landlocked Paraguay has developed into South America’s star economy, with growth rates that are the envy of the region. We assess its business, political, diplomatic and social prospects and, not least, its pending and sensitive renegotiation with neighborhood Brazil of the treaty concerning the huge Itaipú dam”, the report states.

Supported by BKM, the document interviews current President Mario Abdo Benítez and former President Horacio Cartes, and analyses Paraguay’s main industries, upcoming businesses, political changes, infrastructure development and environmental problems. Among them, the Itaipú dam talks to vent pent-up energy, the tobacco business potential, the increase of big rivers navigation that shape the country as a shipping dynamo, cattle ranching, the Chaco deforestation, new diplomatic paths and the expansion of Asunción and Ciudad del Este, the country’s two biggest cities.

According to the Financial Times, a strong economic “growth” has “drive away the shadows of history” that Paraguay has long withstand, such as a weak democracy reputation and as a country with low business opportunities. “Future success will depend on further economic diversification. Greater foreign investment is widely considered as the essential ingredient for Paraguay’s continued growth”, the report concludes.
