Bolivia Battery Metals Investment Seminar
By PPO Abogados
On April 24, 2023, PPO partners Pablo Ordoñez and Carlos Pinto and Shawn Doyle, Principal of McCarthy Tétrault´s Latin America practice, met to exchange ideas at the “Bolivia Battery Metals Investment Seminar” organized by PPO Abogados and McCarthy Tétrault.
At the seminar, the participants provided valuable insights into the legal framework applicable to the mining industry in Bolivia and discussed opportunities for investors in the battery metals industry.
Mining remains one of Bolivia’s most important economic activities. Despite more than 500 years of continuous mining in Bolivia, estimates suggest that only 10 percent of Bolivia’s mineral resources have been extracted. Principal metals and industrial minerals include zinc, lead, tin, gold, silver, copper, tungsten, sulfur, potassium, borax, and semi-precious stones.
Bolivia has the largest lithium deposits of any country and its deposits are estimated to be about half of the world's supply. However, the deposits are located in the Uyuni salt flats, one of Bolivia’s great natural treasures.
