Bolivia Sets New Trademark Registration Record in 2024

In the context of World Intellectual Property Day celebrations, Bolivia’s National Intellectual Property Service (SENAPI) announced a historic milestone in trademark registrations, having delivered 11,244 registered marks nationwide during the 2024 calendar year. This figure marks the highest annual total in the institution’s history and reflects growing engagement with the country’s intellectual property (IP) system.
SENAPI is a decentralized public agency under the Ministry of Productive Development and Plural Economy (MDPyEP) and is responsible for the registration and protection of intellectual property rights in Bolivia, including trademarks, patents, copyrights, and collective marks.
The record-setting achievement represents a nearly 60% increase compared to the previous high of 7,160 trademarks registered in 2022. The agency attributes this progress to the implementation of a series of administrative and service-oriented reforms. These include a new user service model, an enhanced claims resolution program, a toll-free information line, and the integration of digital signature technologies with QR-coded official resolutions and concession titles.
Additionally, policies aimed at reducing registration fees have made IP services more accessible, particularly to social, rural, and academic sectors. This cost reduction policy supports broader national economic strategies, such as fostering domestic entrepreneurship and encouraging the use of national branding in line with import substitution goals.
