The Bolivian Central Bank issued a resolution to strengthen its ban of the use of crypto in the nation and has warned about what it perceives to be the risks involved with investing in cryptoassets such as bitcoin (BTC)."As cryptoassets are not a legal tender in Bolivia, the BCB prohibits their use, as well as their commercialization and purchase, because they incur potential risks of generating economic losses to their operators and holders,” the bank stated in a press release.
In 2014 Bolivia officially banned any currency or coins not issued or regulated by the government, including bitcoin and a list of other cryptocurrencies including namecoin, peercoin, Quark, primecoin and feathercoin.
The Bolivian Central Bank went on to say that citizens are prohibited from denominating prices in any currency that is not previously approved by its national institutions.
Such a ban, the bank stated in 2014, was necessary to safeguard users from the kind of uncontrolled currencies that can lead to the users losing their money.
