Brasil Creates Trademark Database for Use by Law Enforcement Officials
By Rodrigo Borges Carneir

Once the mark is enrolled and a representative is appointed, the authorities that seize counterfeited products will have access to this central database with information about the protection of the mark and the person of contact.
Access to this information will be made exclusively by and will be restricted to the Federal Police, Federal Highway Police, Internal Revenue Service, Customs, Federal Public Prosecutor, State Public Prosecutor, State Public Security Departments and State Criminal Institutes.
This procedure does not substitute the need to register the trademarks before the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office.
