CAN countries present the Andean Digital Agenda

By PPO Abogados

Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, members of the Andean Community, presented the Andean Digital Agenda, a strategy that seeks to achieve digital transformation throughout the region and contribute to economic reactivation. The event was held within the framework of the Andean Committee of Telecommunications Authorities in Quito, Ecuador.

The Andean Digital Agenda is divided in five levels: Digital Government and Digital Transformation, Infrastructure and Connectivity, Digital Talent, Digital Economy and New Technologies for Sustainable Development.

Among the specific actions included in the agenda's roadmap is the issuance of guidelines to increase the digital transformation of State procedures and services, promote the digitization of cross-border procedures, development of free software at a State level, issue policies to promote cybersecurity and information security by adopting international standards, study disruptive technologies to provide connectivity to the Amazon region and other isolated areas, and promote digital skills among young people.

Likewise, it includes lines of action aimed at designing strategies for the adoption of 4.0 technologies in MSMEs, stimulating the use of digital channels for the promotion and sale of products, developing regional initiatives of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, Internet of Things and data science, co-financing projects to encourage the adoption of advanced technologies in prioritized economic sectors.

“The Andean Community reaches an important milestone in its 53 years of institutional life, which is the Andean Digital Agenda, a regional strategy that will contribute to reducing the digital and social divide and, therefore, to improving the quality of life of the more than 111 million citizens of the CAN”, highlighted the Secretary General, Jorge Hernando Pedraza.
