Confusion regarding new Caracas coffee shop
By E.C.V. & ASOCIADOS
Nestlé Venezuela and Starbucks in the United States issued statements in which they disassociated themselves from a new Caracas coffee shop that promoted itself as part of the Starbucks branch. The shop, which opened in a Yeet! supermarket located in the Las Mercedes district, used the Starbucks logo and said to be part of the We Proudly Serve Starbucks Coffee Programme.
Starbucks and Nestlé formed an alliance in 2018 to accelerate and grow the global reach of Starbucks brands in foodservice. Under the alliance, Nestlé is an authorised distributor of Starbucks products in foodservice channels. The We Proudly Serve Starbucks Coffee Programme helps identify a coffee solution for a business, training baristas and working closely with the business to drive total category sales through a wider coffee portfolio and seasonal campaigns.
George Nieves, CEO of Yeet!, acknowledged that although they use the Starbucks logo, they are not an official Starbucks store, as the company does not operate as a franchise. “We were only trying to make the shopping experience in the store more enjoyable and fun by opening the coffee shop,” he said.
