Costa Rica Becomes the First Central American “Champion” of City Nation Place

Costa Rica is the first country in Central and South America to receive the Champion category from the CNP Advisory Group of City Nation Place.
Through its Country Brand Essential Costa Rica, the country has taken a leadership role in this organization, which seeks to foster the exchange of ideas and experiences across the spectrum of branding and marketing strategies related to destination brands worldwide.
"Our Advisory Group, composed of leaders from places around the globe, provides an excellent opportunity to share collective knowledge. Supporting this work aligns perfectly with the values of Costa Rica's country brand," stated Clare Dewhirst, CEO of City Nation Place.
Costa Rica, along with eight other country and city brands from around the world, will now support the development of market research and tools to share best practices in marketing and positioning. The other brands collaborating with Costa Rica in this initiative include Brand Tasmania, Destination Cleveland, New Zealand Story, VisitPITTSBURGH, Slovenian Tourist Board, We are Staffordshire, and Wesgro.
City Nation Place is a global initiative that has facilitated the exchange of best practices in destination and country brand branding and marketing since 2016, covering areas such as public diplomacy, talent attraction, tourism promotion, destination marketing, foreign direct investment (FDI) promotion, and economic development.
In the annual awards organized by City Nation Place, essential COSTA RICA was internationally recognized as Place Brand of the Year in 2019. Similarly, it was awarded as the best in the world in the category of Best Use of Design 2022, applied to the Costa Rican biometric passport.
