Costa Rica looks to restart its tourism industry

Officials from the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) and representatives of the tourist private sector prepared 14 health protocols for the safe reopening of 14 areas of the tourism industry affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although the reactivation of the tourism sector will be gradual, having the protocols ready allows businesses and companies to prepare for the reopening of their businesses, said the Minister of Tourism, María Amalia Revelo.

Some of the areas include:

-Hotels
-Adventure tourism
-Travel agencies operators
-Car rental
-Resort towns
-Spas
-Aerial recreational activity
-Aquatic recreational activity
-Conventions
-Restaurants

The ICT is working with with local leaders and regional tourism chambers to improve options for tourists. Among the goals is lower costs for domestic tourists to help jump-start the industry. The ICT also hopes to create “the necessary conditions to attract foreign investment in the national tourism industry, through coordination with Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency (CINDE) and other government entities,” said Alvarado.
