Costa Rican Women Strengthen Their Global Presence Through Intellectual Property
By IDEAS

With the objective of enhancing the technical capacities of Costa Rican women entrepreneurs, PROCOMER, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Trade (COMEX), the Intellectual Property Registry (RPI) of the National Registry, and NIC Costa Rica, held a new edition of the program “Women Go Global: How Intellectual Property and Digital Trade Can Boost Your Business.” The initiative forms part of the participating institutions’ broader efforts to promote inclusive economic development and facilitate equitable access to international markets.
The activity convened approximately fifty women entrepreneurs interested in strengthening their competitiveness through the use of intellectual property mechanisms and digital trade practices. The program aimed to provide participants with practical guidance for the protection of intangible assets—such as trademarks and industrial designs—and for the effective use of digital tools to support the internationalization of goods and services.
These efforts contribute to reducing gender gaps in access to global commerce and to fostering greater participation of women-led enterprises in international economic activity.
NIC Costa Rica participated in the event with a presentation titled “Your Business on the Internet: Easy, Yours, and Costa Rican,” which underscored the importance of developing a secure and professional digital identity through the registration of a personalized domain name, particularly under the .cr domain.
The presentation highlighted the relevance of domain management as a foundational element for credibility, brand protection, and trust in digital commercial environments, as well as its importance for the consolidation of Costa Rica’s digital economy. Guidance was also provided regarding the strategic use of websites as commercial platforms that support visibility, competitiveness, and the expansion of businesses into foreign markets.
