Creation of an International Mathematics Laboratory between Uruguay and France
By Pittaluga Abogados

A new international mathematics laboratory was established through the collaboration of Uruguay's Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC), the University of the Republic (Udelar), and France's Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), promoting mathematical research in both countries.
This laboratory will join a select group of only 13 laboratories of its kind worldwide, becoming the third in Latin America. Its establishment marks a significant advance in scientific cooperation between Uruguay and France, providing funding for projects, research stays, and training opportunities. It will also facilitate the exchange of mathematicians between the two nations, strengthening academic and professional ties.
The CNRS has supported exchanges through missions and co-supervised theses in Uruguay. Over the past decade, around 100 joint publications have been produced, more than 120 missions have taken place, and 30 Uruguayan students have completed their theses in France or under joint supervision. This new laboratory promises not only to enrich mathematical research but also to open new doors for academic development in the region.
