Several innovation and tech institutions of Bolivia presented the latest edition of “Mapping the Digital Technology Ecosystem in Bolivia”, a quantitative measurement report of the evolution of the digital technology ecosystem in the country. The Foundation for Production (Funda-Pró), Solydes, Emprender Futuro, BIM Asset Management and ICCO Cooperation launched the report’s 2021 edition, which gathers surveys carried out in the main cities of Cochabamba, La Paz and Santa Cruz.
The report seeks to provide a continued quantitative measurement of the evolution of tech companies and businesses in Bolivia through indicators such as the number of startups and support institutions that are currently active.
According too the latest edition, a total of 155 startups remain working in Bolivia in 2021, with 54% of them concentrated in Santa Cruz, the country’s top economic, innovation and tech hub. Creativity to offer new services in transportation, sales and finance were key for these 155 startups to overcome the Covid-19 social and economic crisis.
Compared with the results of the two previous editions -2019 and 2020- the report concludes that the number of technology-based ventures remains stable in Bolivia, with a “considerably active” proportion of startups that have been created and also have closed in the last three years.
“It is necessary to work harder so that all populations and communities, even those furthest from urban centers, have at their disposal the technological and financial infrastructure necessary to participate in digital economies,” the report highlights. “People who do not participate in digital economies today must make the decision to do so and know that they will receive several benefits if the adopt technology. To achieve this goal, better and more information must be communicated to specific groups of people”.
