El Salvador and Guatemala agree on a new binational Customs infrastructure
During a recent official meeting, presidents of El Salvador, Salvador Sánchez, and Guatemala, Otto Pérez, have accepted to prepare a new binational corridor with a single Customs infrastructure in El Coco route, which connects border towns Chalchuapa (El Salvador) and Jerez (Guatemala).

According to La Prensa Gráfica the proposal of El Salvador is to jointly construct a single infrastructure with a single building to allow the integration and easy passage of people and products between the two countries. There was agreement on that proposal and activities are expected to start in the coming days throughout technical meetings.

El Salvador has already began a first stage 4.5 kilometers repairing of the Chalchuapa-Jerez route thanks to an investment of U$S 564.831 provided by the Road Maintenance Fund (FOVIAL).

Another agreement between the presidents was the construction of new border bridges: Guatemala will work on El Jobo bridge and El Salvador on Arce, La Hachadura and Anguiatú bridges.
