El Salvador and Guatemala Expand Advanced Customs Declaration Implementation for Trade Facilitation
By Eproint

El Salvador and Guatemala announced on August 22, 2023, that they will be extending the implementation of the Advanced Customs Declaration to all border Customs points. The declaration is mandatory for all goods that are moving between both countries, regardless of their value or the mode of transportation.
The Advanced Customs Declaration refers to a process in international trade where importers or exporters provide detailed information about the goods they intend to import or export to the customs authorities of a particular country in advance of the actual shipment. This declaration typically includes information such as the description of the goods, their quantity, value, country of origin, and other relevant details.
The purpose of an Advanced Customs Declaration is to facilitate the customs clearance process and ensure that customs authorities have the necessary information to assess duties and taxes, enforce trade regulations, and perform security checks. It allows customs officials to review the information before the goods arrive at the border or port, which can help expedite the clearance process and reduce delays.
The full implementation between El Salvador and Guatemala marks a significant step in the process of deep integration between both nations.
With this launch, the Customs Services of both countries reaffirm their commitment to continue modernizing customs processes and streamlining procedures for users, with the aim of strengthening trade facilitation in the region.
A group of 38 companies participated in the pilot plan to launch the Advanced Customs Declaration from July 28 to August 21, 2023.
