El Salvador seeks to promote its creative industries, making it one of the biggest goals of its economic transformation strategy, a framework projected by the government through 2030.

The deputy minister of Trade and Industry, Merlin Barrera, recently explained to that the government intention is to position El Salvador as a top three Latin American country to provide creative content for international markets.

She mentioned as a pattern Malacrianza (also known as The Crow's Nest) a Salvadoran/Canadian film written and directed by Salvadoran Arturo Menéndez. Malacrianza has generated thousands of dollars in sales, and is the first Salvadoran fiction film which has had a worldwide release: on October 4, 2014 at the AFI Silver Latin American Film Festival.

The creative industries refer to a range of economic activities which are concerned with the generation or exploitation of knowledge and information: design, fashion, film, music, performing arts, publishing, software, Internet, video games and TV, among others.
