El Salvador´s Legislative Assembly Approves Bill to Oversee Ports, Airports, and Railroads
By Eproint

The Legislative Assembly of El Salvador approved a bill on August 17, 2023 to create a new agency to oversee the country's ports, airports, and railroads. According to bnamericas, the new agency, called the Autonomous Executive Ports Commission (CEPA), will be responsible for managing and operating the country's ports, airports, and railroads.
The approval of the bill was met with mixed reactions. The new agency can help to improve the efficiency of the management of the country's ports, airports, and railroads, helping to attract foreign investment by offering a more attractive investment climate to ensure that foreign investors are treated fairly.
However, it can bypass the public procurement law when acquiring or hiring goods, works, and services in certain circumstances such as natural disasters.
The latest Security Mission for Economic Prosperity of the International Trade Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce states that some of the top opportunities for U.S. involvement in El Salvador fall under the broad umbrella of infrastructure.
This includes ports, airports, border infrastructure, roads, highways, bridges, water, electricity, etc. According to the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB), priority areas of infrastructure are water and waste water, transportation and energy.
