Enhancing trade with Honduras through competitive financing

By Bufete Mejía & Asociados

A delegation from the United Kingdom's export credit agency, UK Export Finance (UKEF) was in Honduras on 16-17 July to explore the market and scope projects it can support.

UKEF provides competitive financing to British companies to trade internationally and to overseas buyers of UK goods and services to facilitate access to the UK’s high-quality supply chain.

The delegation that visited Honduras consisted of Emma Thomas, Co-Head of Global Business Origination George Hames, Regional Head of Business Origination for the Americas and Gerson Pérez, Country Head for Central America and the Dominican Republic.

The delegation met with senior representatives of government agencies, private sector, and regional finance institutions. Amongst these, the Secretaries of Finance and Investment; Banco Atlántida, and the Central American Bank of Economic Integration (CABEI).

Delegates learned about public and private infrastructure projects that could benefit from UKEF’s services, including the Honduran Government’s plans for the dry corridor, dams, hospitals and more.
Total trade between the UK and Honduras in goods and services (exports + imports) reached USD 193 million for the four quarters ending in December 2023. This represents a 22.9% decrease or USD 57 million decline compared to the same period in 2022.
