Environmental atlas of Nicaragua

Nicaragua is one of the countries with most forest extension in Central America. According to the U.N. FAO, 25.7% or about 3,114,000 ha of Nicaragua is forested, according to FAO. Of this 37.9% ( 1,179,000 ) is classified as primary forest, the most biodiverse and carbon-dense form of forest. However, from 2001 to 2015, 5.6% of tree cover loss occurred in areas where the dominant drivers of loss resulted in permanent deforestation.
