Explore Semiconductor Supply Chain Opportunities
By IDEAS
Costa Rica will explore opportunities to diversify and grow the global semiconductor ecosystem and create a more resilient, secure, and sustainable global semiconductor value chain. The project will be enabled by the International Technology Security and Innovation Fund (ITSI Fund).
The ITSI Fund provides the Department of State of the United States with USD 500 million to promote the development and adoption of secure and trustworthy telecommunications networks and ensure semiconductor supply chain security and diversification.
Semiconductors and telecommunications networks are critical global economic sectors. Securing and strengthening the world’s long-term economic security and stability hinges on the ability to stabilize and expand semiconductor manufacturing, bring cost-competitive trustworthy suppliers to the telecommunication market, secure semiconductor supply chains, and invest in innovation that will drive the next generation of semiconductor technologies.
Products ranging from vehicles to medical devices increasingly rely on semiconductors as the building blocks of today’s economy.
The collaboration with the United States underscores the significant potential to expand this industry in Costa Rica. This partnership will begin with a review of Costa Rica’s current semiconductor industry development, regulatory framework, and workforce and infrastructure needs.
