AL-INVEST Verde, the new edition of the European Union-Latin America Alliance for Sustainable Growth and Jobs, announced it will provide funding of 25 million euros for innovative projects arising from business partnerships.

The proposals will be received until the end of June. To participate, projects must include at least one entity from a Latin American country and one from the EU. Eligible institutions are non-profit organisations from the EU and Latin American including Nicaragua. In charge of the evaluation of the proposals is Sequa, a German organisation that promotes the development of projects and programmes at a global level and is working hand in hand with a consortium of institutions.

Funded by the European Union (EU), AL-INVEST Verde aims to promote the growth of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in Latin America, through the implementation of sustainable practices, such as the reduction of the carbon footprint in their processes and greater efficiency in the use of resources. This, with a view to contributing to their transition towards a more circular economy.

AL-INVEST Verde also seeks to achieve enhanced use and effectiveness of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in Latin America. Its purpose is to expand and improve the use of IPRs to boost opportunities for research cooperation and stimulate competitiveness and sustainable innovation.

This action is implemented by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the EU decentralised agency, specialised on intellectual property. In this endeavour, it has a privileged collaboration with the European Commission concerning IP external actions in various regions. The purpose is to make better IP Systems and develop and collaborative networks. AL-INVEST Verde is designed to be consistent with EU trade policy, with emphasis on keeping IP in line with an open and sustainable trade policy, to contribute to the economic recovery through support for the green and digital transformations.
