The International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) Central America and Caribbean Regional Group held its first Intellectual Property Moot Court, marking a significant step in strengthening academic training and professional development in the region.
The initiative brought together young lawyers and practitioners in a competitive academic environment designed to simulate real-world intellectual property disputes. Through written submissions and oral arguments, participants engaged with complex legal issues, reinforcing both technical knowledge and advocacy skills.
The competition concluded with a final round held in Guatemala City, where the top teams presented their cases before a panel of experienced IP professionals. The event also served as a networking platform, fostering connections among participants, mentors, and regional experts.
Beyond its academic dimension, the moot court reflects a broader effort to consolidate a more integrated intellectual property community in Central America and the Caribbean. Organizers emphasized the importance of initiatives like this in building capacity and encouraging specialization in IP law among new generations of practitioners.
With strong participation and positive reception, expectations are that future editions will expand their reach and deepen their impact, contributing to the continued development of intellectual property practice across the region.
