First Sound Mark in El Salvador
The first Sound Mark in El Salvador was granted to Chevron Intellectual Property LLC on January 4, 2011. The mark is TEXACO MNEMONIC for services in International Class 35. There was an Office Action regarding a possible violation of Copyrights which was later revoked during the registration process.

Sound marks have been recognized since Legislative Decree 913 dated December 14, 2005 with reforms to Salvadoran Trademark Law published on Official Gazzette No. 8, Volume 370 on January 12, 2006 and effective since January 21, 2006. Sound Marks inclusion and other reforms were necessary for El Salvador to join the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR) between the United States of America, Dominican Republic and all Central American countries.
