According to the annual report of the United Nations Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD), foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2020 grew by 43% in Uruguay. This is the highest figure since 2012 and it occurs in a context of marked decline in FDI in Latin America and the world. The report highlighted that the country had the lowest levels of COVID-19 infection in the region in that period and that US $ 625 million was invested through the Coronavirus Fund. It also highlighted the dynamism of the technology industry and the implementation of increases in various tax benefits granted to eligible projects under the investment promotion regime.
