"That was the topic of a meeting between lawmaker Juan Carlos Rivera, of the conservative opposition Victoria party, and Juan José Castro, e-commerce manager at Guatemala’s chamber of commerce," a BNamericas report stated. "Castro called for a legislative agenda dedicated to creating a legal framework for the industry and the promotion of technological development. In response, Rivera said the Victoria party intends to submit a bill to regulate and foster digital commerce".
E-commerce currently represents just 1% of the Guatemalan economy, but is forecast to reach 5% by 2025, according to the Guatemalan chamber of industry. Cosmetics and health products are the items that are most purchased online.
