Quipu Marca is the name of the new tool presented by the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi) of Peru. "This tool simplifies procedures and eliminates costs for conducting background searches on trademarks, an essential step in the process of registering a trademark”, the Indecopi highlighted in a statement.

From now on all users, both natural persons and companies and institutions, will be able to perform a free background search of trademarks in a faster and digital way prior to filing a trademark application.

According to the calculations estimated by the Indecopi, the Quipu Marca will allow users of the Peruvian IP system a potential saving per year of approximately USD 500 thousand.
