The National Institute of Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI) launched on 2011 a program called “Patent Generation in Peruvian Universities”, with the objective of promote innovation and research through universities and technological centers, and to legally protect the results of such work.

The results have been completely positive since Peruvian university patent applications have increased from a paltry average of two per year until 2010, to eighteen per year for 2011 and 2012.

The universities Universidad Mayor de San Marcos, Agraria La Molina, Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería, Universidad Nacional del Santa, Ricardo Palma, César Vallejo and Alas Peruanas filed 16 patents in 2011 and 20 in 2012, with the technical assistance of Indecopi.
