Government call for companies to produce and distribute psychoactive non-medical cannabis

The Uruguayan government opened a new public call to incorporate up to five companies in the production and distribution of non-medicinal psychoactive cannabis saled in pharmacies.

According to the authorities, since the law regulating the production of cannabis began to be implemented in mid-2017, the new formal cannabis market (self-cultivation, membership clubs and cannabis sale in pharmacies) has decreased at least USD 10 million of illegal drug trafficking profits.
