Guatemala and Mexico Sign Agreement to Enhance Trade Cooperation
By Mayora IP
The SAT of Guatemala and the ANAM of Mexico have signed a cooperative agreement with the objective of developing a unified operational framework for trade facilitation between the two countries. This agreement is a continuation of a previous one signed in 2019 and looks to implement customs clearance at the border between the two nations. The aim is for customs personnel to operate from a single facility located in either of the two countries.
Under the agreement, a pilot plan will be implemented in the coming months at the Suchiate II border crossing with the goal of simplifying processes and reducing clearance times.
The commitment made in 2019 seeks to strengthen cooperation and mutual assistance between the authorities in the application and enforcement of their legislation, combatting infringements, and establishing reliable databases to optimize decision-making in relevant areas.
Furthermore, the agreement aims to improve the detection and combat of illicit practices in international trade and enhance the enforcement of intellectual property rights, among other objectives.
