Guatemala focuses on accelerating patent procedures
The National Secretariat of Science and Technology (Senacyt) of Guatemala organized its first of a series of workshops aimed at the promotion and training on accelerated patent procedures for inventors, businessmen and companies.

The first workshop looked to advise participants on the benefits of requesting accelerated patent procedures, which will earn applicants a competitive advantage in a fast-moving economy based on the continuous developing of new technologies. This type of applications provides inventors, businessmen and companies with a granted patent much sooner than would normally be possible, as patent examinations are accelerated by the IP Office.

“The workshop aims to impact on the science and technology indicators of our country by increasing the number of patent applications filed in Guatemala, especially by residents in the country and Guatemalans. It is also part of a public effort, channeled through the Senacyt, to support local innovators in upbringing their ideas from a project to the real market, generating productivity and therefore economic development fro Guatemala”, said Oscar Cobar, National Secretary of Science and Technology.
