Harvard launches Latin America Research Center in Montevideo

By Pittaluga Abogados

The opening of the Latin American Research Center (LARC) marks a milestone for Uruguay, which expanded its network of technology and knowledge organizations with a new global player in different areas of research and education.

During the inauguration, Harvard researcher and professor Michael Chu declared that “it is a luxury to be in a country that shares the essential values that guide Harvard Business School".  Chu highlighted Uruguay’s respect and protection of freedom of thought and expression and underscored that it is a country where intellectual capital can be born and grow.

HBS has had a longstanding footprint in Latin America for over 20 years. The first Latin America Research Center (LARC) opened in 2000 to satisfy strong interest on the part of the Harvard Business School faculty in the region. As a result, the LARC’s work has greatly increased the volume of in-depth research and course materials that focus on business management issues specific to Latin American companies. This has also enabled Harvard to strengthen its relationships with important companies and organizations, fostering increased student engagement in the region.
