In a lawsuit filed in California federal court, the pioneers of heavy metal accuse 3D Realms of “confusing consumers into believing its products and services are somehow affiliated with or approved by Iron Maiden”
According to the complaint the name Ion Maiden is "almost identical to the trademark Iron Maiden in appearance, sound and overall commercial impression”, with consumers complaining they were being "tricked" into believing that the game was officially endorsed by the band.
The claim also argues that the main character of the video game, called Shelly Harrison, is an “an attempt to copy the name of Steve Harris, an Iron Maiden founder and primary songwriter”.
In a public response, 3D Realm described the accusations as "frivolous”.
