Heavy transport moves again in Nicaragua-Costa Rica border

Arguing that it was trying to mitigate the outbreak of COVID-19, on May 18, 2020, Costa Rica only allowed carriers carrying out direct border-to-border transit to enter the country. Days later Nicaragua closed its border post as a response to Costa Rica's restriction and by May 22, 2020, hundreds of freight trucks were stuck on the border between as the two countries remain locked over measures to contain the novel coronavirus. Finally, in order to overcome the problem that a frozen trade between both countries generates over their economies, the past week both governments have relaxed transit measures.
The Ministry of Development, Industry and Commerce of Costa Rica ordered to increase from three to five days the time that Costa Ricans may stay in Nicaraguan territory either to unload goods or to circulate by regional transit. This is a reciprocal measure that the Government of Costa Rica is applying to regional international land transport.
