Honduras Paperless Trade Project to Modernize Customs Procedures and Improve Trade Facilitation

The Honduras Paperless Trade Project is being funded by the World Bank. The project aims to modernize Honduras' customs procedures by reducing the use of paper and increasing the use of electronic data interchange (EDI).

The project has three main components:

-Modernization of the customs IT system: The project will upgrade Honduras' customs IT system to make it more efficient and user-friendly. This will include the implementation of a new electronic single window system that will allow traders to submit all of their customs documentation electronically.

-Strengthening of customs capacity: The project will provide training and technical assistance to customs officials to help them use the new IT system effectively.

-Enhancement of trade facilitation measures: The project will also support the implementation of other trade facilitation measures, such as the use of pre-arrival clearance and the establishment of a single window for trade.

The project is expected to be completed in 2024. It’s a significant step forward for Honduras in its efforts to modernize its customs procedures and improve trade facilitation. The project is expected to have a positive impact on the Honduran economy by reducing trade costs, improving trade facilitation, and increasing transparency.

Some of its benefits are:

-Reduced trade costs: The project is expected to reduce trade costs for businesses by reducing the time and paperwork required to clear goods through customs.

-Improved trade facilitation: The project is expected to improve trade facilitation by making it easier for businesses to import and export goods.

-Increased transparency: The project is expected to increase transparency in Honduras' customs procedures by making it easier for businesses to track the status of their shipments.
