Honduras presents a Bitcoin city

Bitcoin Valley was launched as the first bitcoin city in Honduras. Located in the small town of Santa Lucia, 20 minutes away from the capital city of Tegucigalpa, the initiative is focused on local and foreign tourists who visit this common Honduran destination.

Bitcoin Valley was jointly developed by Blockchain Honduras, Guatemalan cryptocurrency exchange Coincaex, the Technological University of Honduras, Decentral Academy and Santa Lucia’s municipality. Blockchain Honduras, the force behind the initiative, is a community of entrepreneurs, academics, developers and enthusiasts who promote actions to be pioneers in the use and adoption of Blockchain technology in Honduras.

Initially, 60 businessmen from Santa Lucia will receive training and adopt cryptocurrencies as a way to market their products, with the expectation of expanding the practice in other nearby areas to more businesses and communities. The project seeks to feed of current bitcoin tourists who visit El Salvador and Guatemala, doubling the percentage of foreign visits of Santa Lucia and slowly building Honduras as a regional pole of attraction for innovative projects related to the crypto and blockchain ecosystem.
