IDEAS Opens New Sports Law Division in Costa Rica, Led by Mauricio Sánchez

The renowned intellectual property law firm IDEAS, based in Costa Rica, has announced the launch of its new Sports Law division—an innovative initiative that responds to the growing demand for specialized legal advice in the sports industry. This new division will be led by Mauricio Sánchez, an experienced attorney whose background in sports law and athlete representation makes him a key figure in the field.

A Strategic Expansion in the Sports Industry

With a strong reputation in the field of intellectual property, IDEAS has decided to expand its range of services to include legal consultancy in sports-related matters, such as contract negotiations, commercial agreements, image rights, and mediations before sports federations and governing bodies. This strategic move aligns with the rise of sports in the region and the increasing need for legal structures that protect the interests of athletes, clubs, and sponsors.

Mauricio Sánchez: A Sports Law Expert

Leading the Sports Law division at IDEAS, Mauricio Sánchez is an attorney with extensive experience in the sports and entertainment industries. He earned his Law degree from the Universidad Escuela Libre de Derecho in Costa Rica and furthered his education with a Master’s in Entertainment Business from Full Sail University and an MBA in Sports Management from Universidad Europea – Real Madrid Graduate School. Additionally, he pursued an LLM in Sports Law at De Montfort University in England.

Sánchez has worked at several law firms and agencies in the industry, including serving as President of WMA Latin America, where he negotiated contracts for professional football players and coaches in Mexico and Costa Rica. He has also represented Olympic and world-class athletes through his agency Engage Sports SRL, securing sponsorship deals with brands such as Toyota, G Shock, Taco Bell, Claro, and BAC Credomatic. His expertise in legal counsel and client representation in disputes before sports federations strengthens his ability to lead this new division at IDEAS.

A Promising Future for Sports Law in the Region

With this initiative, IDEAS aims to establish itself as a leading Sports Law firm in Latin America, providing innovative legal solutions to athletes, clubs, and sports entities. The combination of expertise in intellectual property and sports law will allow the firm to offer comprehensive legal services in an ever-evolving market.
